Our friend Rick's wife, Melissa, was finally able to move out to Michigan this past weekend after all the hulabaloo of Rick starting dental school and getting settled in had passed. We had a small welcome party for her on Sunday and since I coincidentally had a cookie cutter in the shape of Michigan's lower peninsula that had never been used (I'm not kidding), I thought it would be the perfect occasion to bake some mitten-shaped cookies. I eventually frosted them maize and blue (well, as close as I could get them with the primary food colors) and Melissa got a big kick out of them.
